This course explores the critical challenges and opportunities in Nigeria's energy and electricity sectors, focusing on sustainable solutions to address power shortages, energy access, and environmental concerns. Participants will be introduced to the complexities of the Nigerian energy landscape, with an emphasis on renewable energy technologies, policy frameworks, and the role of innovation in shaping the future of energy in Nigeria.

1. Powering the Future: Sustainable Solutions for Nigeria’s Energy and Electricity Challenges

Engr. (Dr.) Sunday Oladejo Adetona is an Associate Professor of Electrical and Electronics Engineering at the University of Lagos, Nigeria. Hailing from Igboora, Oyo State, he earned a National Diploma in Electrical Engineering from The Federal Polytechnic, Ilaro, with distinction in 1991. He later received a B.Sc. with First Class Honours (1996), an M.Sc. (2001), and a Ph.D. (2010) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering from the University of Lagos.
Dr. Adetona has served as Acting Head of the Department of Electrical and Electronics Engineering and Faculty Examination Officer. His research focuses on electrical power systems, energy studies, and electronics security. He is a COREN-registered engineer, a member of the Nigerian Society of Engineers, and has held various professional roles, including reviewing Environmental Impact Assessments for power generation stations. At the state level, he served on the Oyo TESCOM board and as a Council Member at First Technical University, Ibadan.
2. Securing Prosperity: Addressing Insecurity as a (Catalyst) Hindrance for Economic Growth

Prof. Evans Osabuohien is a distinguished Professor of Economics at Covenant University, Ota, and the Founding Chair of DIaDeRC (DePECOS Institutions and Development Research Centre), Nigeria. With over two decades of experience, he has authored five books and over 212 scholarly articles. He has led and participated in numerous funded projects and has consulted for international organizations, including IFPRI, UNCTAD, UNU-WIDER, ACBF, AERC, and CODESRIA.
In 2016, he became the youngest Head of Department at Covenant University and was promoted to Full Professor in 2017, making him the youngest in the university’s history. He was recognized as one of Nigeria’s six youngest professors in 2020. He also founded CEPDeR and RCE Ogun (2018-2021).
Prof. Osabuohien serves as a Visiting Professor at Eduardo Mondlane University (Mozambique) and the University of Lusaka (Zambia). He has held academic positions in Vietnam and Germany and is an external examiner for various universities. Additionally, he serves on the boards of multiple companies and coordinates the African Scholars Mentorship Network. He is a Global Author for UNEP’s GEO-7 report and a Council member of the Nigerian Economic Society. He is married with children.

With a PhD in Finance and being a global Certified Management Consultant (CMC) Dr Egbu's expertise is highly regarded. He is a Fellow of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of Nigeria, a Fellow of the Institute of Management Consultants, Fellow, National Institute of Credit Administration and a Fellow of the Centre for Productivity.
